about

Starve The Hunger is the latest chapter for Soarse Spoken, who as a teenager came up in Miami's burgeoning hip hop scene in the late 1990s, where he and his crew would cipher on Miami Beach and hold weekly freestyles that'd attract hundreds of fans. After releasing his album, Third World Prophecies, in 2007, he toured internationally, but he felt stagnant in his career and decided he needed to take a break. It didn't last long, and after four years of doing the steady 9-5, the creative bug bit again.

"A lot of people choose security over their passions, but I didn't want to make that choice anymore," said Soarse Spoken. "I wanted to make the choice of being creative and pursue my dreams. I don't see any other option for me."

After releasing an EP in 2011 titled UNreleased & UNfuckwitable, Soarse Spoken is back on the scene in a major way with Starve The Hunger. The tape is a snapshot of where he is in his life right now – taking chances to make his music, but also living it up in Miami, a town where everyone either DJs, promotes, or hosts parties.

"I live in Miami. I wanted to talk about girls, going out, having fun, hanging out with my homies," said Soarse Spoken. "If I have a statement I'd like to give in my songs right now, it's 'make it fun but still have thoughtful content.'"

The cohesive mixtape is pulled together by the title track "Starve The Hunger," which features Homebody Sandman & Fat Tony and is about what it means to stay hungry and hustle to realize our wildest pursuits. Soarse Spoken makes it all about the city he was born and raised in, Miami, on "Coming From," featuring J NICS, and the melodic "Thieves In The Room," featuring Bernz & Wrekonize from ¡Mayday!
